Healthy Hockey Nutrition – Infographic
Those who play sport at an elite level will most likely do anything to try and give them an edge, as results are everything when you get to the top. In the NHL, for example, you would imagine that every player spends numerous hours honing their skills until they are near-flawless. Also, they are likely to follow an ultra-strict diet so that their bodies are in peak condition for gameday.
This infographic from Tucker Hockey looks at the foods and drinks that form the perfect diet for hockey players, along with advice on when various meals should be taken. What you eat, and the timing of it will have a massive impact on how efficiently you’ll be able to play when it matters most, in the heat of battle. Hayley Wickenheiser, a four-time Olympic medalist with a formidable Canada women’s team, once said that proper nutrition accounted for 50% of her performance. When such a leading player makes a statement like that, it leaves no doubt as to the importance of sufficient nutrition.
The specifics of a hockey player’s diet will vary depending on several factors such as their size, age, gender and the intensity of the game or practice for which they’re preparing. The basic ground rules apply to all players, though, and are discussed in the infographic below.
