HOUSE MAID: This story is inspired by true events faced by Sri Lankan female workers who have being migrating to Middle East countries as housemaids for many years. by Indika Guruge is a fictional story that describes in great detail the life of a Sri Lankan woman – Kamala – and her struggles that she goes through to supply for her four kids a better life.
The story is short, interesting and captivating. The content condenses and provides a ton of information about how a poor Sri Lankan family lives.
Kamala works in a factory for the last 21 years of her life trying to make end means for her family. Her husband is no help at all being an alcoholic and a gambler and often end up beating her for no good reason.
Kamala, to improve the economic state of her family status, decides to take a housemaid work in Saudi Arabia where the salary is much better from her current work.
When she arrives in Saudi Arabia, she realizes that maybe it was not the best choice…
