I hear this excuse a lot from friends that smoke and also people at work, my grandfather lived to be 90 or 100 and he smoked like a chimney, and they say it with such pride like it’s an accomplishment!
People that smoke and reach ages that great means only one thing, they were predisposed to live a lot and with their smoking they managed to cut their life expectancy down! Even if that life expectancy was 10 year or even 5 years, do you know what you can do in 5 years? A lot! You can do anything you want in 5 or 10 years if you set your mind and manage your time right.
Also, these occasions are infrequent, not many people have this let’s call them supergenes that will enable them to live long while smoking. Also who told you that lots of years are also quality years, coughing, chest pains, spitting, getting the flu all the time, and other prone to smoking illnesses.
The statistics are not for the smokers, 1 out of 2 smokers will die prematurely, cutting 30 to 50 years from his life. The rest will have smoking-related conditions, situations, illnesses, and diseases that will diminish their quality of life.
Another thing that I argue with the people that boast that their grandfather lived to be a hundred and smoked is that you don’t have your grandfather’s DNA you have some genetics from your grandfather but not all of them! In a nutshell, you are not your grandfather! That usually makes them pause for a little and think.
