Quit smoking with Cold Turkey or Nicotine Replacement Therapy(NRT)?

Quit smoking with Cold Turkey or Nicotine Replacement Therapy(NRT)?

May of 2009 I decided along with my father to quit smoking. The decision to stop was always in my mind; God knows how many failed attempts I had under my hat. I described all of my failed attempts in my first book Thirsty for Health. Also, you can read one in my article My first attempt at quitting smoking

I thought that only the tar was the guilty party. From those 4000 chemicals, 60 to 80 of them are proven to be carcinogenic.

We decided that we were going to finish the remaining cigarettes in our packs and then stop, and that’s how it happens. Never bought another pack of cigarette, and we are both smoke-free and nicotine-free for the last seven years now.

It’s easy to say it easy to quit smoking when you have it in your rear view for seven years now, and you don’t remember the withdrawal symptoms I had to endure until I managed to break free from the bondage of nicotine.

This time, it was going to be different, I learned a lot of info on how to quit from other people that already done it, and they were enjoying a pleasant, smoke-free life. I sat down and analyzed what went wrong the previous times that I failed, and I was more prepared both mentally and physically to escape the prison of smoking.

I knew that smoking was killing me from the inside out. I knew that 4000 chemicals of the tobacco plant were making my lungs black and constricting their capacity to get and process oxygen every time I was smoking a cigarette. Tobacco was asphyxiating me slowly and methodically to my grave.

cancer-1088631_1280Ignorant about what nicotine really is.

What I didn’t know at the time was that the reason I couldn’t stop was the addictive powers of nicotine. In my eyes, I had a bad habit. I didn’t know that nicotine was the real jailer, that nicotine was saturating my dopamine receptor pathways making my mind a prisoner to her wimps.  I didn’t know that nicotine constricts blood vessels resulting in artery hardening and the creation of plaque which in turn can cause cardiac illness.

I read somewhere on the internet that nicotine needs three weeks to leave your system completely. Which is not true, I either read wrong, or the site gave false information, either way, having this in mind I set up a goal for myself to stay three weeks without smoking and then I am free because I wouldn’t have the poison in my body anymore.

It’s funny how wrong information or a misinterpretation on my part made me quit smoking.

I was unable to think straight and could not process the information I was reading right. I didn’t consider nicotine to be addictive; I thought smoking was a bad habit and not an addiction, but I managed somehow to learn that nicotine must leave your system

My worst fear was that my withdrawal symptoms I would have after quitting smoking would stay with me I thought it was going to be impossible to quit because I would have to endure this symptom for the rest of my life which in reality is not truth.

Nicotine leaves your body after three days! That’s it your body know it’s a deadly toxin, and if you give your body and especially your liver a chance and stop smoking in three days it will clean the poison from your system.

quit smokingGood tactics to follow.

For the first three days you will have withdrawal symptoms because the poison is out but because you conditioned your body to live with it for so many years, your body is asking for it, you need to hang in there and here are a few things you can do.

  • Drink lots of water; it helps flashes the nicotine out faster.
  • Eat lots of fruits and vegetables they are rich in antioxidants, and they will speed the elimination of nicotine. Mainly citrus fruits that are high in Vitamin C
  • Exercise; go for a walk or lift some weight if you can, exercise helps remove toxins out of your system faster.
  • Occupy your hands and your mouth with something else, like toothpicks, small plastic straw, eat drink don’t worry about gaining weight now you can tackle that issue later, just don’t put another cigarette in your mouth.

After the three days, the urges will start to wear off, and gradually you will see that you don’t want to smoke anymore, you just won the physiological aspect of quitting.

What you need to pay attention now are the irrational fears you will have. Events where in the past were associated with smoking will make you want to smoke, but you need to remember that is not a real wanting it’s just fear of the unknown, you don’t know how to act now that you are not smoking to situations that you faced, and you were a smoker.

Your need to retrain yourself that you can do this without a cig in your hand or your mouth.

You need to be smart about this and re-program or de-program yourself of the associations of you smoking by doing any number of alternative tasks.

That’s pretty much what you need to do if you want to get rid of smoking and its evil twin sister nicotine.

quit smokingNicotine is just a chemical with IQ zero which is good for us. You don’t have to be stronger you just need to be smarter.

Now talking about smarter, let me ask you this, will you ever tell an alcoholic that wants to quit to do it gradually? Like you start with a liter of wine a day and then start cutting back little by little, this week one litter next week 750 ml the third week 500 ml and so on until you don’t need any alcohol anymore.

NO, you will never do that because he has an ADDICTION to alcohol when someone wants to get rid of the addiction he or she must get rid of the drug that inflicts the addiction right?

Well, why on earth all the rest of the dependencies are having high success rates because they are doing it cold turkey and with smoking, you have the pharmaceuticals companies christening their products (tobacco less) Nicotine Replacement Therapy.

Replacing what exactly I ask? What? The cigarette with patches, with gums with sprays? How that is going to help a NICOTINE ADDICT break loose from his addiction, are you kidding me?

This BIG –PHARMA industry managed through manipulation and political power to convince even doctors that giving people that have a NICOTINE ADDICTION  “medicine” that contain nicotine!!!

It’s all about the money, BIG-PHARMA now is fighting With BIG TOBACCO  over of who is going to buy the largest quantities of tobacco plants from the tobacco farmers!!

Don’t let yourself fooled by this so called Nicotine Replacement Therapy; it’s not a therapy for your real problem which is NICOTINE ADDICTION, and the only thing they replace is the delivery method from cigarette to patches, spray or gum.

As I said,  be smarter, find a cessation clinic near you and educate yourself of how you can quit using the only method that works, COLD TURKEY.

I am going to give you three names if you follow these people your chances of quitting smoking just went up!
