How to Keep Your Teeth Healthy

Keeping your teeth healthy isn’t just about brushing them in the morning. Make sure you incorporate all of these crucial steps into your daily teeth routine to ensure you’ll never lose your pearly white smile.

Take care of your toothbrush

This is a crucial tip for healthy teeth. First of all, make sure your brush is well rinsed after every single toothbrushing. Next, make sure it is in an upright position and stored out in the open. The reason for this is the air flow that will dry it much faster and prevent microorganisms from growing on it – since they enjoy the moist environment. Finally, replace your toothbrush every 3 to 4 months AND after any kind of virus or the common cold.

Brush your tongue as well

You won’t fight all the bacteria in your mouth just by brushing your teeth. You need to clean your tongue thoroughly every time as well. Not only will this increase the health of your teeth, but it will also prevent bad breath. And if you find your toothbrush bristles too hard for your tongue and cheeks, opt for a toothbrush that has a cheek and tongue cleaner on its backside.

Switch to using fluoride toothpaste

There is so much more to choosing the right toothpaste than just its flavor and whitening power. Always make sure your toothpaste has fluoride in it. Fluoride is a mainstay when it comes to oral health because it is the best possible defense against tooth decay. Not only does it fight germs in your mouth, but it also provides a protective barrier for your teeth.

Floss, floss, floss

We were all taught to floss as soon as we were old enough to hold a toothbrush, but let’s be honest – probably 99 percent of people tend to neglect the importance of flossing. People need to understand that flossing isn’t just about getting those tiny pieces of food that are stuck between your teeth out, it is actually a way to reduce plaque, stimulate your gums and help to lower the overall inflammation of any area.

Ditch acidic foods

Acidity breaks down the tooth enamel which exposes the dentin and then allows bacteria to penetrate into the tooth which results in tooth decay. Also, note that sugar converts into acid as soon as it gets in contact with saliva. And while you don’t necessarily need to stop eating acidic foods altogether, it won’t hurt to learn which foods ARE acidic and take control of your portions.

Xylitol gums

Xylitol is one quite funny sugary substance because it tricks bacteria into thinking they can consume it, but in reality, they cannot break it down. In other words, bacteria in your mouth are going to starve if this is the only type of sugar around them. Chewing these gums also reduces tooth decay and gum disease and promotes saliva production which results in more antibacterial forces in your mouth.

See the dentist at least once in six months

By doing dental check-ups every six months, you will always have a clear image of your dental health and prevent any disease from appearing in your mouth. Likewise, if you already have any kind of oral problem, you will notice it on time, and your dentist will treat it early and much more comfortable. If you are an Aussie and want a quality dental check-up or treatment of any kind, contact a Bondi Junction dentist and make an appointment.

Don’t ignore any changes

If your gums suddenly begin to bleed, or a particular tooth gets a lot more sensitive or even discolored, note that this is something unusual and you have no time to lose. In other words, get in touch with your dentist and let him know right away.

Brush your teeth at least twice a day

A general recommendation is to brush your teeth when you get up in the morning AND before you go to bed. And even though many people tend to neglect the importance of brushing their teeth at night, note that it is equally as important as in the morning, because this way you are getting rid of the germs that accumulated during the day.

By following these tips, you can keep your teeth healthy naturally and save the money you would spend on dental care. Also, you improve your facial appearance as well. A beautiful smile never goes out of style.
