How do Straight Wire Braces Help in Straightening Teeth?

Being a dental specialist, or an orthodontist, you must be happy with your profession, which gives you the best chance to transform the smile of your patient. If you are a specialist, or one going through additional orthodontic training programs, you would want to have a better understanding of how it works.

Know that the straight wire in the field of orthodontics is a particular appliance that is either fixed to the teeth or it is a removable one, which applies force to the teeth. It also produces some changes in the relationship between the teeth, how they develop and how they grow.

Straight wire orthodontics is a common choice in orthodontic therapy, which helps to move crooked or misaligned teeth into physiologically and esthetically better positions to provide better alignment with the dental arch. Using these wires helps to treat complications or problems like fractures on to the maxilla by stabilizing and keeping the teeth and jaws compactly consolidated.

These appliances simplify the treatment of orthodontic cases as they minimize the need for any time-consuming process to have to bend the wires or come up with precise detailing. Straight wire, a pre-adjusted appliance works by correcting issues that dentists meet in everyday scenario’s where they are not able to tune out occlusions. However, some degree of wire bending may be necessary.

Understanding the Straight Wire Braces

Straight wire braces also go by with the term “fixed wire or permanent dental braces.” Most of us are not aware of this but this helps to correct the smiles of people of all ages, and it remains one of the most convenient methods of orthodontic treatment in the dentistry field.

To know how these appliances work, you need to know what makes these braces a choice for patients. Are they hard, and rigid wires? Not really. When you attend Gerety Orthodontic Seminars, you will learn that these are actually flexible wires. They put up pressure on the teeth, helping them to align to the best place.

How Do They Work?

For treatment using these appliances, the dentist will put up a bracket in the right position, which they select after examining your teeth thoroughly. The brackets come with unique designs, in ways that the root of your tooth will move in an appropriate direction and correct crown angle.

When these brackets are set in the right place, as a dentist, you have to connect the wires to the brackets, and this should help to bend them further. Eventually, the wire will then return back to its original shape. When it does return to the actual form, your teeth will then move, returning your brackets back to their right position. Once the treatment comes to an end, your patient is then fit to return back to their healthy diet, since their teeth will be back to their original position with the wires.

The Stages in Straight Wire Treatment

In straight wire orthodontics, as mentioned above, the treatment plan deals with the proper alignment of the teeth, and it targets occlusion. It comprises of three different stages, including alignment, leveling, overbite correction, and apical control, as well as overjet or space closure correction. The final phase involves detailing and finishing of the occlusion and the teeth alignment.

In this treatment, it is essential to manage anchorage, and usually, it is planned and executed from the earliest treatment phase, and management is possible both intro and extra-orally.

The Advantages and Disadvantages of Straight Wire Braces

Straight wire orthodontics has several advantages and disadvantages, including:

  • A reliable and better form of precision
  • Less wire bending
  • Flexible biomechanics
  • Better support for the teeth
  • A multitude of designs in brackets

Using straight wire orthodontics also comes with several disadvantages. However, it is not a simple technique as it may seem. Some drawbacks tag along, including:

The need for appliance adjustments due to high variability in the dental biology and dental setup. Between the wires and the brackets, there may be high friction, which would require the need to use expansion appliances, Anchorage, as well as self-ligating bracket designs. This helps to minimize possible problems. Also, the need or demand for anchorage may increase.

In orthodontics, the knowledge on straight wire orthodontics remains an essential concept in the treatment, and it is vital for general dentists to understand the problems and rectify any kind of dental shortcomings. It helps patients get a better smile, and especially for those who wish to use it as a possible treatment to target their dental problems.

To get the best knowledge, it is best that you enroll in orthodontic continuing education. You should choose the right experts, and ask them for more information on how they can help you with the treatment using this appliance.
