Say Good Bye to Lower Back Pain with These Effective Lower Back Pain Treatments

Lower back pain is a widespread condition which affects nearly 80 percent of individuals sometime in their life. Some of the reasons that can cause this discomfort are muscle pull or spasm, weak psoas muscle, nerve irritation, slipped disk, sciatic nerve pain or spinal stenosis. The treatment options available for lower back pain depends widely on the cause and intensity of the pain.



 Different Treatments Options

  • Bed rest & Heating Pad

In case of minor discomfort, reducing your level of activity and bed rest for a few days can be helpful, as most back pain issues resolve within a couple of days. Application of a cold pack or heating pad can also help relieve low back pain.

  • Non-surgical methods of Chiro-practice & Acupuncture

Chiropractic care and acupuncture are alternative non-surgical methods for lower back pain relief. Chiro-practice is the practice of manually realigning the spine and other weak or injured areas of the musculoskeletal system whereas acupuncture treats illness and pain by applying pressure to the pressure points. These treatments can improve flexibility, blood flow and also reduce muscle tension.

  • Soft Tissue Therapy

Soft tissue therapy such as useful relieves technique, Garston technique, dry needling or massages are used to treat the root causes of lower back pain, which are weak posture, muscular weakness, compensations and weakness via comforting hands-on adjustments.

  •  Cardio, Yoga & Aerobic Exercises

Regular exercise including cardio and low impact aerobic exercises along with exercises that specifically target the back muscles make abdominal muscles stronger that help to support the spine. The stronger your spinal and abdominal muscles are, the lesser chances of back pain you have. These exercises also improve flexibility and posture.Planks, cow, cat, rows, V-ups, and swimmers are highly effective exercises to prevent lower back pain. Apart from these regular exercises, you may also add yoga to the list to improve back condition. Swimming and walking are other instrumental ways to keep a healthy back and maintain a low weight.

  • Medications

Over the counter medications such as ibuprofen and naproxen are effective in reducing lower back pain and swelling, but if the cause of suffering is nerve compression or disc problem, then it is best to consult a doctor for better and long-lasting lower back pain treatment as nerve pain cannot be treated permanently with oral medications.

  • Alternative methods like traction, TENS & epidural injections

In case of inadequate response to conventional methods, alternative methods can also be used to relieve lower back pain problems. Traction uses a base system involving weights to help align the spine and bring back slip discs into place. Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) are electrical devices used to interfere with the transmission of pain signals sent to the lower back, and epidural injections are injected in the spine to reduce inflammation in the affected area.

  • Prolotherapy

Prolotherapy uses plasma that is rich in platelets or stem cells from your own body to naturally promote a small inflammatory response surrounding an injured connective tissue, causing regeneration and growth of healthier tissue. This treatment is used for bulging discs, chronic joint pains, and tendonitis.

  • Diet changes and regulations

Anti-inflammatory diet that is rich in collagen is essential to improve your overall muscular and joint health. Most of the back and joint issues arise from being overweight and not looking after one’s diet. Potassium and magnesium-rich food such as green leafy vegetables, avocados, coconut water help reduce swelling and improve muscular, and nerve function.

A high fiber diet is instrumental in overcoming problems relating to high blood pressure, heavyweight and digestion. Consider taking foods rich in omega 3 fatty acids and calcium supplements to manage pain and reduce inflammation.

If your lower back pain is severe and the above treatments are ineffective, back surgery is an option that may be considered.
