How to Have a Proper Diet Before and After Surgery

We all know that there is nothing more important than our health and that the majority of it comes from the things we eat and drink. Some people can turn their lives upside-down just through changing their diet, and with grocery shelves today being fuller than ever, we have to be very careful about what we consume. And in times when your body is being put through stress, such as an operation, you will want to adapt your diet further to make sure you have the best experience possible. It indeed is a minimal price to pay for health.

Before your operation

In the 2-4 weeks before your scheduled surgery, you want to make sure that you are meeting all of the quotas for a healthy, balanced diet. Primarily, you want to make sure you are getting enough nutrients: drink at least eight cups of water every day and track your nutrients to make sure you are meeting your requirements for proteins, vitamins, and minerals. If you have special dietary needs, talk to your doctor and construct a two-month plan to follow up your surgery.

The week of the procedure

Seven days before your surgery, you will want to make a few adjustments so that there are no problems with the process itself. Talk to your doctor about which foods can increase blood loss, affect the anesthesia, or cause any other issues. Vitamin supplements, foods with a high content of refined sugar, fish, and several other ingredients can all have adverse effects so you will do best to avoid them in the period just before the procedure.

Post-op diet

The first week after your surgery, you will want to follow the same plan you had the week before the operation, except the early two days, which should be soft, easily digestible foods. You will also want to eat a lot of anti-inflammatory foods, which are foods high in monounsaturated fats, like olive oil, avocado, sour cherries, and blueberries. Avoid foods high in trans fats and refined sugar. You might also be told to take some additional supplements, so make sure you follow your doctor’s advice for what you should be taking.

Procedure-specific rules

Some procedures will require you to follow a strict diet around the time of the method, and possibly for the rest of your life. Some types of surgeries need that you lose weight before the system, and for many, the amount you lose before the process will determine how successful the operation will be. You can also find clinics for liposuction in Perth that offer day procedures, which means you will have a lot less recovery time and you might not have to be as strict with your dietary changes. You should still ask your doctor about what the best course of action is, even if it is a minimally invasive procedure. Remember that the body sculpting clinics are there to help with problem areas that you want to be changed, but they will always recommend a healthy lifestyle and losing as much excess fat as you can through exercise and healthy eating. Some other weight-control surgeries can have lifelong effects and may ask for a lifelong commitment to

a particular diet, so make sure you are prepared for that before you go under the knife.

If you have been leading a healthy lifestyle up until your surgery, you will only have to make minimal changes to your diet, but still, consult your doctor for all uncertainties. After your operation, you will want to take a short break from exercising, and then get back into it slowly, to make sure you don’t damage any tissue or cause inflammation. Listen to your body and trust it when it tells you that it is ready for something.
