UV Treatment: The Green Road towards Healthy, Clean Water

To restore equilibrium between the man and nature, we regularly have to look for new ways to gain access to clean resources without compromising the environment. This age of ecological sensibility in the realm of tech has brought us a UV water filtration treatment. It is mainly the most effective method to disinfect water and help it get rid of damaging microorganisms. If you want to consider implementing such a filtration method into your household, and you are interested in how it works, here’s why the UV treatment is the green road towards healthy, clean water.

The essentials of UV treatment

Once you grasp the basic “molecular” mechanics of the UV water filtration treatment, it actually sounds quite mundane. Essentially, ultraviolet (UV) rays produced in the device (which is typically shaped like a pipe) will penetrate the harmful pathogens in the water and damage their DNA. These pathogens include viruses and bacteria, as well as molds and other sneaky microorganisms.

By damaging their DNA, the UV rays will either eradicate them or cause permanent damage that will both hinder their ability to reproduce and render them harmless. In the blink of an eye, such systems kill at least 99.9% of these microorganisms, without causing any change in taste or smell of water. Also, it does not cause any adverse chemical reactions that might make the water in question dangerous in any way. It is simple, green, efficient, and it bears no impact on the environment – in so many ways, it is a cutting-edge technology with almost no downsides.

Why is it superior?

An alternative to UV water purification has always been the application of a chemical disinfectant. In this day and age when clean water is becoming increasingly scarce, and we need to adopt green thinking to preserve the environment, such methods are becoming more and more dangerous. Chemical disinfection of water creates toxic byproducts that have a profoundly adverse effect on the situation in the long run.

Additional layers of protection

Of course, there is no such thing as a perfect system. Most appliances that use tap water from the local water supply system are prone to quick decay and malfunction. This is because the water is never spotless at the elemental level – which is the very issue that lies at the core of this article. The UV treatment deals with the invisible biosphere within your clear water, but there is a whole spectrum of additional factors such as limescale that can deteriorate your UV treatment device to the point of disrepair really fast.

In this case, it is a brilliant strategy to introduce an additional layer of protection to your disinfecting setup, and components such as a modern commercial water softener can really help the longevity of your UV treatment system. Basically, this component is a hydraulic design added to the entry point of your UV treatment system. It is covered in a chemically particular material that alters the molecular nature of calcium and magnesium present in the water. In a nutshell, it corrupts the scale producing the quality of these molecules, so they’ll just pass through the system without creating any sedimentary effects.

Wide application

As it has already been mentioned, the UV disinfection treatment will not take any quality from the water itself, nor will it add anything to it chemically speaking. However, the very nature of this method adds energy to the water, which also means this UV treatment is not only a green solution for households, but it also has an extensive application in various industries.

In fact, due to the disinfecting quality of this method, it is an ideal solution for uses in pharmaceutical industry, medical industry and in the realm of cosmetics – actually, in all sectors that require sterile water. Also, the UV treatment is an ecologically sensible factor in wastewater plants, as it successfully deactivates most microorganisms that are detrimental to human and animal health. For this reason, it can also be used in cattle industry or any sort of industry related to farming and animal breeding. Of course, bear in mind this is not the only method.

The UV method can also be used in combination with other water treatments to create incredibly strong filtration systems – it is usually coupled with reverse osmosis and electro deionization, which helps remove excess chlorine and ozone.

When you come down to it, the UV filtration method will not take anything away from water or add anything insidious to it. You can rest assured that the water you are drinking is not “irradiated” or “soiled” in any way. As for eradicating microorganisms detrimental to your health, you’ll hardly find a more sensible method than the UV treatment. However, you should also be aware of the fact that this method does not filter other waterborne factors, such as a whole spectrum of heavy metals. There are different filtration methods dedicated to this issue.
